World Cup Experience TV App

Project Overview

Above is the main menu screen of the World Cup TV app, a Directv TV app used for following the World Cup standings and setting recordings for matches you want to watch later. There was some initial push back from the PM on the proposed navigation because he didn't like that the Group Stage and Second Stage were displayed as seperate menu items. However, my research on rules and settup of the tournament proved that structuring the navigation as we did made the most sense from not only a UX perspective but also stayed true to the tournament format. What seemed a fairly straightforward TV app, centainly had it's challenges from a project prospective. Under a tight project deadline, close team collaboration was necessary to meet the approaching delivery date.

Project Approach

It was critical to involve stakeholders early in the design process to ensure they understood the rationale behind the app's architecture and interactions. Using a paper prototype helped get buy in from the product owner by demonstrating the intended user flow.

Daily Collaboration

In addition to SCRUM meetings with the project team, I found it most helpful to have daily meetings with the UI Designer on the project to keep our UX/UI efforts in sync. From initial wireframes to the final mockups, we provided feedback to one another and made iterations each day so that we'd remain on the same track to completion.

Conclusion

Once we had UX, UI, Product and Engineering on the same page for the design direction, the dev team was able to build and go live with the World Cup Experience tv app in time for the tournament. It was great to see friends and family interacting with the app while enjoying the world cup on Directv.
